This study had the objective of assessing the genetic divergence in giant missionary grass (Axonopus jesuiticus x A. scoparius) germplasm based on morphological and agronomic traits. Five accessions were evaluated in the field: V14337, V14403, V14404, V14405 and V14406. Three contrasting groups were formed using the UPGMA clustering method: V14337 and V14404 formed one group, V14403 and V14405 formed another, and V14406 was isolated from the other accessions. The most striking traits for the identification of the accessions were the height of the plant and the change color of the leaf. Only V14406 accession had purplish green leaves. The other four accessions differed with regards to plant height and dry matter production, with superiority of V14337 and... |

Flaxseed application in meat and meat products by adding not flesh ingredients has not yet been properly assessed. This technology strategy, if well optimized, could substantially improve the nutritional value of meat products and promote healthy appeals consistent. Knowing that, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding golden flaxseed oil, or flour, or seed in the physico-chemical properties and fatty acid profile of beef patties. Beef patties were prepared with 5.0% of oil (FO), or flour (FF), or seed (FS), plus a control formulation (FC). For raw products containing flaxseed, the moisture content (74.22 to 68.61%) was decreased and the ash (1.61 to 2.00g 100g-1), protein (15.62 to 16.46g 100g-1), fat (6.20 to 9.74g 100g-1), carbohydrate (2.02... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritive value of elephant grass silages with increasing levels of dried mango by-product (DMB). Five addition levels were studied (0, 4, 8, 12 and 16%) using 20 rams, in a randomized complete design with five treatments (addition levels) and four replications. Dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (TC), non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) intake and digestibility were evaluated, as well as the total digestible nutrients (TDN) and the silage nitrogen balance (NB). Mango by-product addition did not influence the DM, CP and TC intakes, the TDN level or the OM, CT and NFC digestibilities. On the... |

This study measured the kinetic parameters of the ruminal degradation of the silage of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu. The experiment had a completely randomized design with five treatments and five repetitions; the treatments featured the inclusión of natural brewer’s grain to Marandu grass silage at levels of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40%. The regression equation for the degradability of the soluble Fraction A of dry matter showed a linearly increasing pattern (P<0.05) with an addition of 0.19% for each 1% of brewer’s grain included. The percentage of insoluble potentially degradable fraction (B) of dry matter was reduced linearly (P<0.05). The ruminal degradation rate in the dry matter (c), expressed as % h-1, increased linearly... |

Microalgal population of oyster ponds is dominated by several tychobenthic diatoms which provide a very good food to grow oysters. The mechanisms which allow them to dominate have been put under research. H.P.L.C. analysis demonstrated 17 amino acids amounted 10-17% of total DON, i.e. 0.6-11.5 mu g-at/l nitrogen. Serin and glycin were the most abundant. None of the substances was related to the presence of oyster. Glutamic acid, alanin and ornithin concentrations showed the greatest variations; they are suspected to play the major role as nutrient source. Screening of nutritional capabilities of ten local isolates of micro-algae to use 42 organic substances as sole source of nitrogen, demonstrated urea, glutamic acid and hypoxanthin are assimilated by all... |
